Lisa joined EWS in 2024. Prior to teaching math, Lisa utilized her Mechanical Engineering degree working the mining industry selling High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe in Utah, Nevada, and Wyoming. Lisa's favorite hobbies are walking, jigsaw puzzles, relaxing at the beach or pool, and watching the Astros. Go Astros!
Kim Hart joined the Upper School Art Department at Emery/Weiner during the Spring Semester 2015-16 school year. She currently teaches all middle school art classes and upper school Digital Imaging I and II. Before working at Emery/Weiner, Kim worked in graphic and web design and taught art and design classes at a public high school in Texas. Kim spent a few summers at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) teacher program, where she won The Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education award for her digital curriculum. After growing up mostly overseas, Kim graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art. When not at Emery, Kim loves traveling with her husband and two children, creating anything with her hands, and volunteering as a photographer for children at a local foster care agency.
Before coming to EWS, Michael taught for seven years in public and charter schools in Arizona and Texas. During that time, he taught a wide variety of seventh through twelfth grade Social Science courses including World History, United States History, Economics, United States Government, Professional Communications, and guided research. Michael now teaches twelfth grade Economics and tenth grade World History at Emery/Weiner. When he's not teaching, Michael loves cooking delicious meals for his fiancée, playing and coaching soccer, playing trivia, and talking about this month's book at his book club.

Stephanie first came to EWS in 2010 and served as the librarian until 2012. She returned to EWS as the school’s librarian in 2019. She has been a school and academic librarian, serving pre-kindergarten to college students, since 2005. Before becoming a librarian, Stephanie was a classroom teacher for six years. Her accomplishments include 2019 Teacher of the Year at T. H. Rogers School and 2015 Houston ISD Librarian of the Year. Stephanie has a passion for guiding students to information and resources, whether for academic research or pleasure reading. She is an avid reader who enjoys young adult literature and volunteering at the Houston Zoo. When she is not reading or volunteering, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her husband and her many cats.
Ashley joined EWS in 2022. Before arriving at EWS, Ashley worked at Google for five years as a Field Automation Technician. Ashley graduated from the University of Missouri–St. Louis, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and marketing. At EWS, Ashley serves as a business office assistant and is the head cheer coach. Ashley enjoys spending time with her fiancé and exploring Houston in her free time. Of her many hobbies, Ashley enjoys crafting, especially bedazzling items, from AirPod cases to dance costumes.
Katherine Herman grew up in Houston and attended St. John’s School for high school, after which she attended the University of Texas at Austin for both her undergraduate and law degrees. She taught Upper School Judaics at The Emery/Weiner School from 2010-2012, and she returned to the Upper School Judaics Department in 2023.
In the intervening years, she spent time first working in internal employment mediation in the Johns Hopkins Hospital System, and then enjoying time raising her two children. Katherine has also written a book of Jewish poetry, focusing on the intersections of Southern identity and Judaism, which was published in 2023.

Ryan Hertlein has been with EWS since 2024. Prior to coming to Emery, he spent the last decade as an Associate Director of Admission and Alumni. He holds a Master’s Degree in Education and a Leadership Certification in Enrollment Management. He is passionate about empowerment, support, inclusion, and respect in education. In his free time, Ryan enjoys playing golf and staying active.

Kelsey has been with EWS since 2015. Prior to joining the Emery family, Kelsey honed her math skills in two very different careers. After graduating from Rice, she worked as a mechanical engineer in oil and gas, with positions ranging from design engineer for downhole equipment to materials engineering specialist in a chemical plant. She then spent several years as a professional baker and pastry chef, helping to open several premier restaurants and bakeries in Houston. Kelsey enjoys challenging students to think in a way that is new to them. Kelsey also co-sponsors the Renaissance Festival Club, focusing on costume design and trebuchet building. Kelsey enjoys baking tasty treats, designing and creating costumes and other craft projects, and trying as many new restaurants as possible in her free time.
Connie joined EWS in 1999. Before arriving at EWS, Connie was a Trauma Center nurse at Ben Taub General Hospital. Connie also served in the United State Air Force for two years at Womack Army/Air Force Base in North Carolina.

Diane has been with EWS since 2009. Before coming to Emery, she taught English in North Carolina and has taught English in all grade levels (9-12) as well as Debate courses. After teaching English at Emery for many years, she has stepped out of the classroom and into College Counseling in her role as Associate Director of College Counseling. In her past 14 years at Emery, Diane has taught Public Speaking, English II & English II Honors, English IV Honors: Evolution of the Novel, and English IV: Writing and Rhetoric. She has worn many hats at Emery: Department Chair (2011-2015), New Teacher Coordinator (2010-2014), Freshman Grade Level Coordinator (2014-2016), and Sophomore Grade Level Coordinator (2016-2019). Diane enjoys spending her free time crafting, riding her bike, and attempting calligraphy. She is also obsessed with her rescue dog, Monroe. One of her favorite parts of working in the Emery community is fostering many long-term relationships with alumni and seeing what they do as adults in the world. Diane loves working with teenagers and cannot imagine her day without their curiosity, enthusiasm, and idealism.
