  • Life Science

    Grade Level: 6th
    Length of Course: 2 semesters
Prerequisite: Completion of 5th Grade Science
    Course Description:
Life Science begins with the study of the nature of science and investigative processes. The curriculum then focuses on the following four major areas of study in biology: structures and processes, heredity, biological evolution, and ecosystem interactions. The primary units of study include cells, organ systems, genetics, evolution, and ecosystems. The course also emphasizes the development of academic skills including reading for understanding, making, and recording observations, organizing information, and graphing. The introduction of scientific tools is an integral part of our study, as the use of the basic equipment will be a necessary component for every future science class.
  • Earth Science

    Grade Level: 7th
    Length of Course: 2 semesters
Prerequisite: Completion of Life Science (6th Grade Science)
    Course Description:
Earth Science seeks to develop students’ understanding of planet Earth and of the regions of space beyond it. The course begins with a review of the nature of science. Students move on to learn about relative dating, stratigraphy, geologic history, and absolute dating, The curriculum then focuses on major areas of study in Earth Science including plate tectonics, the rock cycle, atmosphere, weather, climate, and the solar system. The goal of this course is to expand students’ scientific literacy and to strengthen their critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills through diverse learning activities including lab investigations, projects, and discussion.
  • Integrated Physics & Chemistry

    Grade Level: 8th
    Length of Course: 2 semesters
Prerequisite: Completion of Earth Science (7th Grade Science)
    Course Description:
Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC) is a foundational science course that introduces students to key principles in both physical and chemical sciences. Through hands-on experiments, data analysis, and problem-solving, students will explore the interactions of matter and energy, chemical reactions, forces and motion, and the fundamental laws that govern the physical world. This course emphasizes real-world applications of scientific concepts, through critical thinking and inquiry while engaging in laboratory investigations and collaborative projects. Topics include atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, motion and forces, energy transformations, waves, and electricity.
