Physical Education

  • 6th Physical Education/Athletics

    Grade Level: 6th
    Length of Course: 2 semesters
    Prerequisite: None
    Course Description:
    All 6th grade students attend Physical Education class as part of their required course load.  Physical Education curriculum in grade 6 emphasizes the development of basic skills and knowledge of sports, fitness activities, teamwork, and sportsmanship.  The students are introduced to the fundamental skills, strategies and rules of various sports during each unit, including volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, hockey, track & field, softball, and badminton.  The culminating activity at the end of each unit is a fun and friendly tournament competition.  Following each unit, the students participate in playground sport activities, including kickball, ultimate Frisbee, capture the flag, and other cooperative games.  The physical education environment in grade 6 is one where all students are given opportunities to build self-confidence; experience new activities for the first time, and develop a positive life-long attitude toward sports and fitness.
  • 7th Physical Education/Athletics

    Grade Level: 7th
    Length of Course: 2 semesters
    Prerequisite: None
    Course Description:
    All 7th grade students attend Physical Education/Athletics class as part of their required course load. Students who play an in-season sport will report to Athletics and students that do not play an in-season sport will report to Physical Education.  Physical Education curriculum in grades seventh and eighth builds upon the skills and knowledge of sports, fitness activities, teamwork, and sportsmanship that were learned in grade six. Included in the curriculum are working on dynamic flexibility and functional movement, strength and conditioning, fitness testing and playground sports and games.  Athletics curriculum in grades seventh and eighth focuses on sport specific training, strength and conditioning and team strategy.  Due to the wide variety of spring sports and the challenge of practicing these sports on campus (i.e., golf and tennis), strength and conditioning will be emphasized in the spring. Similarly, to grade 6, the students continue to build self-confidence, take risks and develop a love for fitness.
  • 8th Physical Education/Athletics

    Grade Level: 8th
    Length of Course: 2 semesters
