Position Overview
The Athletic Trainer at The Emery/Weiner School plays a vital role in supporting the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes. This position is responsible for the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Working closely with coaches, student-athletes, parents, and healthcare professionals, the Athletic Trainer ensures appropriate medical coverage for all practices and athletic events, while promoting wellness and injury prevention strategies.

This role requires a proactive, compassionate healthcare professional with strong clinical skills, excellent communication, and a passion for working with adolescents in a school environment that emphasizes character, community, and academic excellence.

Responsibilities 
  • Provide immediate care and first aid for athletic injuries during practices and competitions. 
  • Develop and implement injury prevention programs and strategies. 
  • Conduct evaluations and design rehabilitation programs for injured athletes in coordination with physicians and other healthcare professionals. 
  • Maintain detailed records of injuries, treatment plans, and progress notes. 
  • Collaborate with coaches on student-athlete readiness and return-to-play decisions. 
  • Monitor environmental conditions (e.g., heat index, lightning) and implement safety protocols as needed. 
  • Manage inventory and maintenance of athletic training supplies and equipment. 
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and state athletic regulations. 
  • Provide education and training on health-related topics to student-athletes and coaching staff. 
  • Attend home games and select away games as determined by the Athletics Department. 
  • Support a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes student well-being, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct. 
 
Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field (Master’s preferred). 
  • Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer. 
  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Texas. 
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification. 
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience working with student-athletes in a high school or collegiate setting preferred. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by athletic schedules. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
 
Physical Requirements 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with physical activities and injury support. 
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, and movement across athletic fields and facilities. 
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
