The Emery/Weiner School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and collegial Visual Arts Teacher to join our collaborative faculty. Responsibilities include teaching sections of Middle and/or Upper School Visual Arts, and participating in advisory, student life, and chaperoning duties according to the experience of the candidate and needs of the school. A strong candidate will be an experienced arts professional with a background in teaching and/or working with young people, and a desire to teach in a progressive, student-centered independent school that values innovative pedagogy and experiential education. An outstanding candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record of innovation, flexibility, collegiality, and student success.
This position requires a professional who:
- Is passionate about teaching Visual Arts and fostering creativity and a love for the arts in all students.
- Is qualified, proficient, and comfortable teaching in a wide range of artistic mediums.
- Is passionate about building new artistic opportunities and growing existing programs.
- Thrives on a collaborative team which works closely throughout the year to create and facilitate artistic experiences, both in the department and the school community at large.
- Has strong rapport with young people, engages affirmingly and encouragingly with students.
- Facilitates and supports student engagement in visual arts contests and other opportunities outside the classroom.
- Exhibits a growth mindset and continually seeks to improve the way she or he operates.
- Embraces classroom technology integration as a tool for learning.
- Continues to explore their own artistic practice.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teaching sections for Middle and/or Upper School Visual Arts classes,
- Assessing students’ artistic, academic, and social development,
- Providing consistent oral and written communication to students and families,
- Overseeing and organizing student involvement in various local, state, and national contests throughout the year,
- Serving as advisor to a small cohort of students,
- Collaborative work on grade-level, department, and interdisciplinary faculty teams,
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Visual Arts, Arts Education, or related field
- Comfort with innovative and forward-thinking approaches to instruction
- A strong a commitment to professional growth
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a Visual Arts, Arts Education, or related field
- Experience in professional artistic settings
- Experience teaching in independent schools
