Inaugurated in 2021, The Emery/Weiner School’s Bursten Teaching Fellows Program is designed to capture the interest of candidates who are considering teaching as a long term profession and are seeking an entry-level teaching experience. Bursten Teaching Fellows are full-time employees with a reduced teaching load, designed to give the Fellow time and space to grow and learn. Over the course of a full school year, Bursten Teaching Fellows will co-teach classes with seasoned team members, conduct classroom observations in multiple departments, receive ongoing coaching from a mentor, build strong relationships with students, parents, and teachers, and perform other duties related to the daily life of the school. Some of these responsibilities include participation in student life activities (e.g. club sponsorship, assistant coaching, etc.), supervisory duties, and school trip chaperoning/facilitation according to the experience of the candidate and needs of the school.
A strong candidate for the Bursten Teaching Fellows Program will be a content expert with an undergraduate and/or graduate degree, and have a desire to work in a progressive, student-centered independent school that values kindness, honesty, and hard work.
