Job Summary:
The Fine Arts Director is a dynamic and visionary leader responsible for shaping, sustaining, and advancing a vibrant fine arts program that nurtures creativity, self-expression, and artistic excellence across The Emery/Weiner School. As a key member of the school’s leadership team, the Fine Arts Director provides strategic oversight of visual arts, music, theater, and related creative disciplines, ensuring that the arts are fully integrated into the academic and cultural life of the school.
Working in close partnership with the Head of School, division heads, faculty, and staff, the Fine Arts Director champions the role of the arts in fostering intellectual curiosity, emotional growth, and community connection. This leader supports faculty excellence, curricular coherence, and meaningful student experiences, while promoting a culture that values artistic risk-taking, collaboration, and joy.
A visible and engaged presence on campus, the Fine Arts Director builds strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues, serving as both an advocate for the arts and a bridge between creative vision and practical implementation. The ideal candidate brings a balance of artistic expertise, educational leadership, and empathetic management, along with a deep commitment to the holistic development of students within a pluralistic Jewish educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the fine arts program across grades 6–12, including visual arts, music, theater, and interdisciplinary creative offerings.
• Articulate and advance a clear vision for the role of the arts within the school’s mission, values, and educational philosophy.
• Foster a vibrant, inclusive, and joyful arts culture that reflects the school’s pluralistic Jewish values and celebrates creativity, identity, and community.
• Supervise, mentor, and support fine arts faculty through observation, coaching, professional development, and collaborative planning.
• Ensure curricular coherence and alignment in the arts both vertically (across grade levels) and horizontally (across disciplines and divisions).
• Collaborate with division heads and academic leadership to integrate the arts into interdisciplinary learning, experiential education, and school-wide initiatives.
• Champion student growth and well-being through arts participation, performance opportunities, exhibitions, and creative expression.
• Oversee planning and execution of performances, exhibitions, showcases, and arts-related events that engage the broader school community.
• Partner with advancement, admissions, and communications teams to highlight the arts program in storytelling, recruitment, and community engagement efforts.
• Manage departmental budgets, facilities, scheduling, and resources to ensure sustainable and equitable access to high-quality arts programming.
• Serve as a key liaison for parents and guardians regarding arts curriculum, student progress, and performance opportunities.
• Recruit, evaluate, and retain outstanding fine arts faculty aligned with the school’s mission, culture, and commitment to excellence.
• Act as a visible, collaborative, and trusted leader—modeling creativity, professionalism, empathy, and a growth mindset.
Qualifications Sought:
The ideal candidate will be an experienced arts educator with proven leadership experience who brings both creative vision and strong organizational skills. The most compelling applicants will demonstrate many of the following attributes and experiences:
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate a compelling vision for arts education to students, faculty, families, and external audiences.
• A leadership style grounded in collaboration, approachability, and respect for diverse artistic voices and perspectives.
• Proven experience teaching and/or leading in one or more fine arts disciplines, with an understanding of best practices across multiple art forms.
• Demonstrated success in supervising, mentoring, and developing faculty to strengthen instructional practice and artistic growth.
• Proven leadership experience in directing, coordinating, or advancing arts programs, with responsibility for people, programs, and strategic decision-making.
• Experience with curriculum design and program development in arts education across multiple grade levels.
• A deep belief in the power of the arts to support social-emotional learning, identity development, and community connection.
• Familiarity with or openness to pluralistic Jewish education, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful school culture.
• Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to balance long-term vision and day-to-day execution.
• A collaborative and empathetic presence, capable of building trust and enthusiasm among students, colleagues, and families.
• An advanced degree in fine arts, arts education, educational leadership, or a related field is strongly preferred.
